Our Team
Thao Ha, Ph.D.
Director and Principal Investigator
Dr. Ha is a developmental psychologist and the director of the @HEART Lab. Her research explores how emerging technologies (including social media, AI, and VR) reshape adolescent romantic relationships at a time when love is at its most pure and vulnerable, yet profoundly formative in shaping lifelong love, relationship patterns, and mental health. By examining how young people navigate partner choices, relationship dynamics, and breakups within their broader social world, including peers, caregivers, and educators, Dr. Ha identifies key risk and resilience factors that influence well-being. Her work provides critical insights for designing tech-driven solutions, policies, and interventions that foster healthy relationships that flourish in both digital and physical spaces.
Taren McGray, Ph.D., MPH.
Post-Doctoral Research Scholar
Dr. McGray (Dr. Mac) is a behavioral and social health scientist and the post-doctoral researcher in the @HEART lab. Her research examines the epidemiology and measurement of sexual and dating victimization in underrepresented global communities, particularly as emerging digital technologies alter the context of how harm is perpetrated and who experiences it. Dr. Mac is interested in how digital platforms are used in relationships; how social identities impact digital and in-person victimization; how that information can be used to guide programming, policy, and advocacy; and how network-oriented approaches can be engaged to reduce risk and foster healthier relationships.
